A free trolley will bring you to points of interest in Yorktown, April thru October. The trolley runs weekends, April 5th thru Memorial Day; daily Memorial Day until Labor Day and weekends September 13 thru the end of October.

Colonial National Historic Park

Yorktown Visitor Center: Museum, film, battlefield, auto tours, ranger programs.

Bookstore: Revolutionary War and Colonial history books, videos, toys, auto tour tapes, Jamestown glass and pottery. Daily 9am-5pm. Extended hours in spring and fall. 757-898-2410.

Yorktown Victory Monument: Commissioned by the Continental Congress in 1781 to commemorate the great victory at Yorktown. This majestic monument was constructed between 1881 and 1884.

Nelson House: Restored mansion of Georgian architecture. Home of Thomas Nelson Jr., a signer of the Declaration of Independence, Governor of Virginia and commander of the Virginia Militia during the seige of Yorktown. 757-898-2410.

Poor Potter Archeological Site: The "poor potter," William Rogers, as described by Royal Governor Gooch in 1732, actually operated a large scale pottery here in violation of English trade laws. Remains of the factory, circa 1720-1745 were uncovered in 1970. 757-898-2410.

Customhouse (seasonal): Owned by the Comte de Grasse Chapter, DAR, it was built in 1721 as a storehouse by Richard Ambler who later became collector of duties from ship captains. Sunday 1-4pm.

Headquarters of the Fifes and Drums of Yorktown: Public summer performances. Call for information 757-898-9418 or 757-867-8487.

Grace Church and Book & Gift Shop: This 300 year old Episcopal Church survived the 1781 and 1862 seiges and the "great fire" of 1814. The book shop has children's books, devotional literature, James Avery jewelry, selected gifts and cards. Tuesday-Saturday, 11am-2pm; Sunday 10:15-11:15. Services are on Sundays at 7:50am, 9:05am and 11:15am. 757-898-3261.

Archer Cottage: This example of a colonial waterfront dwelling was used as a home and store for more than a century. It is currently headquarters of the Yorktown Foundation.

Cornwallis Cave: While popular legend places Cornwallis' headquarters here, he was actually located in a bunker along Tobacco Road.

Watermen's Museum: Tells the story of "Wooden Boats and Iron Men." Boat models, photos, tools, artifacts of the men who harvest the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-4pm; Sunday 1-4pm. 757-887-2641.

"Miss Yorktown" (May-October): Fishing trips and York River cruises. Docks at Watermen's Museum. Special charters available. Call Erin Kay Charters: Daytime 757-879-8276 or evening 804-642-5096.

"Yorktown Lady": Departs from the Watermen's Museum for luncheon, sunset, dinner and moonlight cruises on the York River. Also available for private charters. Call for schedule. 757-229-6244.

Yorktown Victory Center Museum & Gift Shop: American Revolution in dramatic film, exhibits. Costumed interpreters demonstrate Continental Army camp life and 18th century farm life. Gift shop has a large variety of Americana items. Wooden toys, history books, jewelry and a large selection of gifts. Daily 9am-5pm. 757-253-4838.

Moore House (seasonal): Site of negotiations that led to the British surrender at Yorktown, October 19, 1871. 757-898-2410.

Duke of York Hotel, Yorktown, Virginia with direct access to the Yorktown Beach, a short walk to historic Yorktown Battlefield and the Yorktown/Jamestown Welcome Center. An easy drive to Historic Williamsburg, Jamestown, Busch Gardens, and Water Country USA.
